This time of year is probably one of the most loaded periods for Apple fans. That’s because it is the period in which many novelties appear. It happened this year, too. The main problem here comes from the fact that if an upgrade is being done to the new iOS 5.1, the baseband of that device will not be preserved. And that’s the reason for which iPhone Dev-Team has advised iPhone users that an upgrade to iOS 5.1 should be done only through a custom IPSW, for the Ultrasn0w utility to work in the future.

Even if the guys from iPhone Dev Team have announced that Ultrasn0w will be updated so it could unlock iDevices which work on iOS 5.1 and old basebands (which supports unlocking), it is a solution for those which feel that their waiting should end right now. Of course, this solution is unofficial but we can use it in order to unlock our iPhone and 3GS devices that are currently running on iOS 5.1. This solution is called Sn0wbreeze Fixer.

How To Unlock iOS 5.1 iPhone 4/ 3GS With Ultrasn0w Fixer
Step 1: Open Cydia and add the following source: http://repo.iparelhos.com;
Step 2: Visit the above entioned repo and look for “Ultrasn0w Fixer”. Once found, download and install it.
Step 3: Now you have to install the following patch: “Ultrasn0w 1.2.5”. IT has been developed by the Dev Team and can be found by simply searching it in Cydia.
After installing the above mentioned patches your iOS 5.1 iPhone 4 or 3GS should now be unlocked. Now you will be able to use it with any carrier.
Note that the “Ultrasn0w Fixer” should e installed before installing “Ultrasn0w”, as per the abovementioned steps.
